Bishop William H. Graves Sr., a trailblazer for justice and equality, was a member of the NAACP National Board of Directors for 27 years. One of the nation's most consequential religious and civic leaders, he was actively involved in the social and political issues facing disadvantaged communities. With his quiet, strong demeanor, Bishop Graves was a spiritual giant who knew hardships and the blessings of second chances. Bishop William H. Graves, Sr., former vice chair of the NAACP national board of directors, was the 42nd bishop of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church (CME), and died in Memphis on Nov. 30, 2019.

Dear CME Family: It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Mother Doris Leona Scott, the aunt of Senior Bishop Lawrence L. Reddick III, Presiding Prelate of the Eight Episcopal District, and Rev. Pansy R. Washington of the Sixth Episcopal District. Services for Mother Scott will be held on Friday, June 18, 2021 at Phillips Metropolitan C.M.E. Church, 2500 Main Street, Hartford, CT 06120. The Visitation is from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. The Celebration of Life is at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield, CT.

Touching Base: A College of Bishops Ministry of Connecting with the Connection is an intentional effort of the College of Bishops of the CME Church to be in touch with the Connectional Church.

Each third Wednesday of the month in 2021, a bishop will provide an inspirational message to be shared with the church. This month's message is provided by Presiding Bishop Sylvester Williams, Sr. of the Third Episcopal District.
